It takes a village…to make a movie.
It takes a village…to make a movie.
Mary Aloe and the Aloe Entertainment team feel that the importance of keeping your IMDB current is crucial to you and your company’s careers in this business. Whether your credits are numerous or you are working on your first film; like other social media, IMDB requires your attention – it is the go-to site for the entertainment industry.
Finding the funds to produce your film is about sales. Whether through equity, debt, pre-sales, tax incentives, crowd-funding or your dentist; raising the capital is a combination of talent, salesperson-ship, credits, presence in the industry and what the internet says about you. IMDB (owned by Amazon), is the main go-to source of information about the film and television industry. What does yours look like? Are you an IMDB pro member with picture and resume privileges? Do you update your page every time something new is available? I hope the answer to those questions are positive. Mary Aloe and the Aloe Entertainment team know that the people you contact for money are certainly going to look before they write that check and the name actor or director you want is certainly going to check you out there, as well, no matter how savvy and charming you were in the meeting.
Every article, blog, or picture that mentions you or your company needs to be added to your IMDB page. Every “thanks”, PA work, other entertainment or financing work that is on your resume needs to be updated onto your IMDB page immediately. Like Mary Aloe and the Aloe Entertainment team, you must take the time to keep your IMDB page(s) current. No matter if it is a picture already produced, like BATTLE IN SEATTLE or TEN THOUSAND SAINTS, or those in development or pre-production, like MARY or TIGER or TIMOTHY HILL RANCH, regular upkeep of the Mary Aloe, Aloe Entertainment, and various projects’ IMDB pages is one of our essential tools to enhance our industry reputation. For all in this industry, it is a tool to be recognized, remembered, respected, and financed. In the end, no matter how wonderful the script is or the talent in front or behind the camera, you, Mr. or Ms. Producer, are selling you.
It doesn’t take a Bollywood-style movie to crossover to the Indian or Western audiences. Films like “The Hundred Foot Journey” or “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” do very well globally. Multi and cross-cultural creative talent and crews bring stories about India and Indians to the world, continuing a trend of diversity and success.
Mary Aloe and the Aloe Entertainment team, along with Mass Hysteria Entertainment are producing such a film, TIGER. Directed by Alister Grierson (SANCTUM), this movie is inspired by the true story of Pardeep Nagra, an Indian boxer who was banned from the sport for refusing to back down from his beliefs. As a consequence, his legacy will be forever tied to his two biggest battles: the one in the courtroom and the other in the ring.
With a large Indian-based population in the United States, Vancouver, South Africa, Australia, and London, crossing the cultural line is, in fact, all about a great story. Whether it is Deepa Mehta’s “Water” setting a precedent in the crossing of geographic and cinematic boundaries or Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire”, which won critical and popular acclaim throughout the world; the Oscars and other awards organizations, as well as the box office, have taken note and learned how to market and distribute these great stories of India and Indian life for international audiences.
Mary Aloe and the Aloe Entertainment team are proud to be a part of this trend, knowing that it will surpass any novelty stage and, especially with TIGER, bring more hybrid cinema to the world. Themes, like the ones found in TIGER, of individual triumphs, good people winning in the end, hard work, and savvy, are richly rewarded in the crossover audience by their popularity, critical acclaim, and box office, Movie history is gradually filling with these great stories and cross-cultural productions, and it is the better for it.
Executive Producer, Mary Aloe, and the Aloe Entertainment team joined Producer, Trudie Styler, and team for the Sundance premiere of TEN THOUSAND SAINTS. HOLLYWOOD, CA / ACCESSWIRE / March 5, 2015 / Daniel Grodnik’s Mass Hysteria Entertainment Company, Inc. (MHYS) announced today it has acquired the film rights to writer, director Cole Claasen’s Timothy Hill Ranch, and has partnered with Aloe Entertainment to co-finance and produce. Aloe Entertainment recently co-financed 10,000 Saints starring Ethan Hawke, Hailee Steinfeld, and Emile Hirsch that just had it’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and Wild Oats, directed by Andy Tennant and starring Jessica Lang, Demi Moore, and Shirley Maclaine that will be released later this year through the Weinstein Company. “Mary Aloe and I are working on a number of film projects together including the recently announced Punjab Tiger and now Timothy Hill Ranch,” said Grodnik, CEO of Mass Hysteria Entertainment. “Mary is a seasoned professional who has a deep understanding of film economics that works in tandem with her wonderful story sense. The script for Timothy Hill Ranch has already benefited from her creative ideas.”
Logline: When 17 year old Parker is busted for selling drugs in Brooklyn and headed to jail, he’s offered a second chance…a year on a horse ranch in the middle of nowhere.
Timothy Hill Ranch is based on the life of Thud Hill, the executive director at the Ranch, a 75 acre horse ranch/juvenile correctional facility on the east end of Long Island, working with young men coming out of jail and transitioning back into society.
Our story is about a particular relationship Thud finds with a new resident named Parker. Parker is a typical tough guy when he arrives, but after Thud puts him in his place, a promising change begins to happen in Parker, who finds a father figure in Thud.
“We are currently looking for a star to play Thud and are hoping to begin selling the picture at Cannes in May,” said Grodnik.
Timothy Hill Ranch is Cole Claassen’s third feature film as writer/director. His first two screened around the world and won festival awards.
Cole has lived and worked at the Ranch for the past year researching the characters and writing the script. This is a passion project for him with the goal of exposing a societal epidemic in the inner-city and an alternative form of correction that is changing many young lives and offering second chances to young adults who are otherwise lost.
